Who leads each group

Mexico, the USA and Germany already had six points each from two games, round two added Egypt, Spain, France and Argentina, and Colombia made it eight after beating DR Congo to reach six in Group K. France and Norway are level on six in Group I, and Brazil and Morocco remain tied at the top of Group C on four. England and Ghana share the lead in Group L on four apiece, with Croatia still alive on three after beating Panama.
Eliminations and the tightest groups
Haiti, Tunisia and Jordan were the first teams out, and Uzbekistan and Panama have now followed, both finishing their second round on zero points in Groups K and L. Group G and Group H remain tight, Egypt and Spain pulling away to four points while New Zealand and Saudi Arabia sit on one apiece, needing results in the final round to survive. Live tables are always current on our standings page. See the Group E and F detail in our Group E update and Group F update.
How qualification works
The top two in each of the 12 groups go through, joined by the eight best third-placed teams, sending 32 of the 48 nations into the knockout rounds. That means even a single win, or sometimes a single point, can be enough to stay alive. For the full breakdown, see our complete World Cup 2026 guide and keep an eye on the fixtures page for what is next.
