Uzbekistan vs Colombia: Colombia Win a 3-1 Thriller on Uzbekistan’s Debut

Uzbekistan forward Abbosbek Fayzullaev scores historic first World Cup goal vs Colombia

Updated 17 June 2026.

Uzbekistan vs Colombia at World Cup 2026 finished 3-1 to Colombia, with Daniel Muñoz, Luis Díaz and substitute Jaminton Campaz on the scoresheet, but it was Abbosbek Fayzullaev’s reply that mattered most to the debutants. His 60th-minute header was Uzbekistan’s first-ever World Cup goal, a piece of history Colombia’s superior quality could not erase at a packed Estadio Azteca.

How Colombia held off a spirited Uzbekistan

Daniel Muñoz’s 40th-minute finish gave Colombia the lead they had threatened from the start, and Luis Díaz looked to have settled it with a sharp finish on 65 minutes. Uzbekistan refused to fold, though, pulling one back five minutes earlier through Abbosbek Fayzullaev to keep the contest alive deep into the second half in front of more than 80,000 fans.

Colombia eventually had the last word. Substitute Jaminton Campaz headed home in the ninth minute of stoppage time to make it 3-1 and put a flattering gloss on a result Uzbekistan made far harder than the scoreline suggests.

Fayzullaev writes Uzbekistan into history

Abbosbek Fayzullaev’s header is now a permanent part of World Cup history: Uzbekistan’s first-ever goal at the tournament, scored on their tournament debut against a Colombia side featuring Luis Díaz and James Rodríguez. For a debutant nation many expected to be overwhelmed, it was a statement that they belong on this stage.
