USA win Group D and reach the Round of 32

The headline from the World Cup 2026 June 19 results was the hosts going through. The United States beat Australia 2-0 at a roaring Lumen Field, a Cameron Burgess own goal and an Alex Freeman strike sealing top spot even with Christian Pulisic rested. When Paraguay later beat Turkiye, the USA were confirmed as Group D winners. Full match analysis is in our USA 2-0 Australia report.

Brazil and Morocco pull clear, Haiti go out

Group C took shape in two acts. Morocco moved first, Ismael Saibari’s early strike earning a 1-0 win over Scotland and lifting the Atlas Lions to four points. Then Brazil delivered the response they needed, Matheus Cunha scoring twice and Vinicius Junior adding a third in a 3-0 win that ended Haiti’s tournament. Brazil and Morocco now lead the group, with Scotland third. Read the Brazil 3-0 Haiti report and the Scotland 0-1 Morocco report.

Almiron makes unwanted history

Paraguay’s 1-0 win over Turkiye kept their hopes alive and confirmed the USA as group winners, but the night will be remembered for Miguel Almiron. The midfielder was sent off in first-half stoppage time after a VAR review, the first player dismissed at a World Cup under FIFA’s new law banning players from covering their mouths during a confrontation. Ten-man Paraguay held on, as our Turkiye 0-1 Paraguay report explains.
