Norway vs Senegal: Haaland Double Edges a Thriller 3-2

Erling Haaland, who scored twice for Norway against Senegal at World Cup 2026

Updated 22 June 2026.

Norway vs Senegal at World Cup 2026 finished 3-2, Erling Haaland’s second-half double seeing off a late rally from Ismaila Sarr to send Norway through from Group I. Marcus Holmgren Pedersen’s first-half opener and Haaland’s two clinical finishes proved enough, even as Sarr’s brace made for a nervy finish at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough.

Norway vs Senegal World Cup 2026: how Norway won it

Pedersen opened the scoring just before half-time after Senegal defenders Kalidou Koulibaly and goalkeeper Edouard Mendy both misjudged the danger. Haaland then took charge after the break, scoring twice in eleven second-half minutes to put Norway 3-1 up. Sarr’s reply on 53 kept Senegal in it, and his second deep into stoppage time made for a tense final few minutes, but Norway held on for the win.

The result leaves Senegal facing elimination after back-to-back defeats, having also lost their opener to France. Norway, by contrast, have now beaten Iraq and Senegal to move level with France at the top of Group I, both sides already in command of their own Round of 32 fate.

What it means for Group I

Norway sit on six points alongside France, both through barring an extraordinary final round, while Senegal remain on zero and need a heavy swing in the last round to stay alive.
